The American Folklife Center Archive, established in the Library of Congress Music Division in 1928, is now one of the largest archives of ethnographic materials from the United States and around the world, encompassing millions of items of ethnographic and historical documentation recorded from the nineteenth century to the present. These collections, which include extensive audiovisual documentation of traditional arts, cultural expressions, and oral histories, offer researchers access to the songs, stories, and other creative expressions of people from diverse communities.

Folkstreams is a National Preserve of American Folklife Films whose mission is to find, preserve, contextualize, and stream documentary films on American folklife. There are numerous worthwhile documentaries on South Carolina foodways, social customs and traditions, and culture on Folkstreams.

The Southern Foodways Alliance documents, studies, and explores the diverse food cultures of the changing American South. A member-supported organization based at the University of Mississippi’s Center for the Study of Southern Culture, the SFA collect oral histories, produce films and podcasts, publish great writing, sponsor scholarship, mentor students, and stage events that serve as progressive and inclusive catalysts for the greater South.

The Occupational Folklife Project (OFP), at the Library of Congress' American Folklife Center, is a multi-year documentation project that seeks to capture a portrait of America's workforce during a time of transition. It gathers community-based oral history interviews with workers across the United States, discussing their workplace experiences, training, and occupational communities.

StoryCorps’ mission is to preserve and share humanity’s stories in order to build connections between people and create a more just and compassionate world. One of StoryCorps missions is to weave into the fabric of our culture the understanding that everyone’s story matters. At the same time, they are creating an invaluable archive for future generations.

The Veterans History Project of the American Folklife Center collects, preserves, and makes accessible the personal accounts of American war veterans so that future generations may hear directly from veterans and better understand the realities of war.
