What is Gale Analytics?
Gale Analytics assists the library in blending internal data provided by the library (ILS, Computer Use, eBooks, etc.) with external data that Gale provides such as census information, ACS, and Experian lifestyle data. Your data stays in your hands and the resulting output is relayed in Tableau, an interactive dashboard that allows you to zoom in/out of maps, filter criteria, and export mailing lists. This insightful tool allows you to better understand your community’s (patrons and non-patrons) current library activity and how to effectively meet its needs through demographic insights and the Experian Mosaic Segmentation system.

About the Experian Mosaic Segmentation System
Experian’s Mosaic Segmentation System is a household-based consumer lifestyle segmentation system that classifies all U.S. households and neighborhoods into 71 unique types and 19 overarching groups, providing a 360-degree view of consumers’ choices, preferences, and habits. This paints a rich picture of U.S. consumers and their socio-demographics, lifestyles, behaviors, and culture. Public libraries often know their patrons’ behaviors inside the library, but it’s difficult to understand who patrons are outside the library. If libraries can get a better understanding of this, then they are better apt to serve their patrons more holistically, as they can add resources and programs accordingly. Just as the Experian Segmentation system can support libraries in getting to better know their patrons, it can also do the same for non-patrons, equipping libraries to craft the right message to the right people.
